Program

Day 1 - Wed, June 2

Arrival at Pisa Airport Galileo Galilei and transfer to Casa Piero in Viareggio. The venue in Viareggio is a newly renovated, early twentieth-century town house with five en suites that's just a five-minute walk from the beach and right around the corner from the market and the city's best cafés and restaurants. Viareggio is a seaside resort in northern Tuscany boasting a two-mile-long esplanade lined with decorative Art Nouveau and Art Deco buildings, historic cafés and fancy boutiques. When all the guests have arrived, go on a walking tour and enjoy a gelato at one of the many excellent gelaterie in town. Welcome aperitifs and dinner at Casa Piero.

Day 2 - Thu, June 3

It's market day in Viareggio so spend the morning browsing through the countless stalls that sell everything from fine linen clothes, leather goods, food products, to kitchenware and bed linens. If shopping is not your thing you can lounge at the seaside and go for a swim at one of the town’s beach club. Have lunch oyo. Have a fun, hands-on cooking class in the afternoon preparing dinner.

Day 3 - Fri, June 4

After breakfast drive to La Spezia to catch a ferry to visit what is arguably the prettiest of all the coastal towns in Liguria. A colorful huddle of old fishermen's homes greet those who visit the picturesque seaside town of Portovenere. Leisurely strolls through winding, narrow streets will disclose spectacular seascapes of emerald waters lapping along the town's rocky shoreline (approximately a one-mile, partly uphill walk). Lunch oyo. Enjoy a wine tasting en route back to Viareggio. Dinner in Casa Piero.

Day 4 - Sat, June 5

After breakfast head to the northernmost part of Tuscany, a lush and mountainous area known as Lunigiana. Visit the picturesque and ancient town of Pontremoli wedged between two streams. Atop the town lies a fortress where mysterious, prehistoric statues known as 'Stele' are housed. Lunch oyo. Return to Casa Piero for dinner, if time permits we can stop briefly at the very pretty dot of a town Bagnone.

Day 5 - Sun, June 6

After breakfast visit Pisa to see what is perhaps one of Italy's most famous symbols, the Leaning Tower. Spend the morning exploring the majestic piazza made up of equally stunning white marble buildings that stand out against the square's green lawns (approximately a two-mile walk). After lunch oyo be surprised to discover how many other noteworthy sights there are to see in this charming and lively university town. Return to Viareggio.

Day 6 - Mon, Jun 7

After an early breakfast catch a fast train to Rome (less than 3 and a half hours). Reach the Eternal City before noon and catch a taxi to our hotel. After lunch oyo, go on a walk to see some of the city's main sites: Piazza Navona, Pantheon, Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps (approximately a three-mile walk). Have dinner in a traditional Roman restaurant.

Day 7 - Tue, June 8

After an early breakfast visit the Vatican. Spend the whole morning here. Have lunch oyo. Free time in the afternoon. Try more of Rome’s signature dishes at another typical trattoria for dinner.

Day 8 - Wed, June 9

Free time in the morning to do some shopping, catch a museum or see some of the other sites you missed. Take a fast train from Rome back to Casa Piero in Viareggio. Arrive in town in the late afternoon. Dinner in Villa.

Day 9 - Thu, June 10

After breakfast visit the endearing city of Lucca, hidden behind imposing Renaissance walls. Its cobbled streets, handsome piazzas and shady promenades make it a perfect destination to spend the day and with a ratio of 1 shop per every 3 inhabitants it's a great place for shopping. In the morning go for a walk to see the town's main sites (approximately a two-mile walk). After lunch oyo you can decide to go on an additional walk to explore the town further, or enjoy free time to either go shopping, ride bikes around the tree-lined city walls, or catch a museum. Return to Viareggio for a second hands-on cooking class preparing a full-course, farewell dinner at Casa Piero.

Day 10 - Fri, June 11

After breakfast departure from Pisa international airport. Check out time at villa is by 11 am. We recommend you book a flight that leaves before noon. We will only offer a limited amount of transfers to airport therefore if you remain within our suggested time slot you can avoid having to wait at the airport for a long time if your flight departs very late or having to reach airport by your own means if your flight departs very early.
