May 5 - Day 1
Arrival at Ljubljana airport in Slovenia and transfer to hotel in the old city. We recommend you book a flight that lands around noon (11am – 1pm). We will only offer a limited amount of transfers to hotel therefore if you remain within our suggested time slot you can avoid having to wait at the airport for a long time if your flight arrives very early or having to reach the hotel by your own means if you arrive very late. Ljubljana was nominated the Green Capital of Europe in 2016 and much of the town's center is restricted to traffic. Stroll down the leafy banks of the emerald-green Ljubljanica River, soak in the marvellous architecture of the capital's main square with its much celebrated Triple Bridge and take the funicular up to the 16th century castle that dominates the city's skyline. Have welcome dinner in one of the capital's fine restaurants.
May 6 - Day 2
After breakfast visit fairytale-like Lake Bled. Be enchanted by its crystalling waters, high mountain peaks, picturesque church out on an islet and a medieval castle clinging to a rocky cliff. Walk to the top of Velika Osojnica and be rewarded by one of the finest views of the lake. Have lunch in a traditional Gostlina. Return to Ljubljana in the late afternoon. Free time to further explore the capital.
May 7 - Day 3
After breakfast visit the jaw-dropping Postojna caves, one of the largest in the world. Its stalagmite and stalatite formations are unequalled anywhere. On arrival admire the Predamja Castle dramatically built in the mouth of a cavern at the top of a cliff. For lunch try what just might be the best roast pork you've ever had. Return to Ljubljana in the late afternoon. Free time.
May 8 - Day 4
After breakfast transfer to Plitvice Park in Croatia. Break up the long journey by stopping to see the Otocec castle charmingly set on a tiny island in the middle of the Krka River. Have lunch in Samobor a quiet town with pastel houses crossed by a stream that winds through the town center. Try one of their famous creamy cakes before setting off again to reach our hotel in the Plitvice National Park.
May 9 - Day 5
After an early breakfast go on a 4-hour walk to explore the Plitvice National Park, a Unesco World Heritage Site and Croatia's top natural attraction. It is a dazzling stretch of forested hills, turquoise lakes and hundreds of waterfalls and cascades. Have dinner at one of the restaurants found within the park or in a nearby town.
May 10 - Day 6
After breakfast transfer to Split. Stop at Zadar to visit the historic old town with its Roman ruins, medieval churches and amazing sea organ: stairs that descend to the sea that emit hypnotic sounds when waves push air through a system of pipes. Have lunch in Zadar before setting off to visit Sibenik. Its magnicent medieval heart is made of white stone which contrasts against the blue waters of the bay. See St James' Cathedral what is considered one of the most important architectural masterpieces of the Dalmatian coast. Arrive in new hotel at Split in the late afternoon.
May 11 - Day 7
After breakfast spend the day visiting Split, Croatia's second largest city lapped by the Adriatic on one side and with a spectacular mountain backdrop on the other. This lively city has some of the best Roman ruins outside of Italy, chief amongst is Diocletian's Palace, one of the most imposing Roman ruins in existence. Originally built as a fortified town and imperial residence it has become the heart of the city with its maze of streets buzzing with people and full of bars and restaurants. Have lunch in a local restaurant then spend the rest of the day exploring Split.
May 12 - Day 8
After breakfast visit gorgeous Trogir set within medieval walls on a tiny island and linked to the mainland by a bridge. The old town has earned UNESCO World Heritage status thanks to its many beautiful buildings dating from the 13th to the 15th centuries. Have lunch in town. Stroll down Trogir's wide seaside promenade lined with cafes and yachts before returning to Split in the late afternoon.
May 13 - Day 9
After breakfast transfer to Dubrovnik. En route we'll stop at Makarska to stretch our legs. Makarska is a beach resort with a spectacular natural setting, backed by a glorious mountain range and a lovely long waterfront promenade. We'll also stop to have lunch and enjoy a wine tasting along the way before finally reaching Dubrovnik the pearl of the Adriatic and our home for the next three nights.
May 14 - Day 10
After breakfast visit the city's claim to fame, the spectacular city walls, a 2-km walk which consists in a series of forts, towers, bastions and casements. From the top of the walls, hailed as the finest in the world, you'll be rewarded by sublime views of the old city and the shimmering Adriatic. Have lunch at one of the city's fine restaurants then continue your visit of the city's enchanting old town with its white limestone streets and baroque buildings.
May 15 - Day 11
After breakfast take a scenic boat ride to the stunning town of Korcula surrounded by imposing defence walls. This coastal citadel with a fascinating fishbone layout is rich in history, its streets are full of Renaissance and Gothic architecture. The town cradles a harbour, overlooked by towers and with rustling palms all around. After enjoying a farewell lunch further titillate your taste buds with a wine tasting at one of the areas excellent wineries. Return to Dubrovnik for your last evening in Croatia.
May 16 - Day 12
After breakfast departure from Dubrovnik international airport. We recommend you book a flight that departs around noon (11am – 1pm).
